Leather can be refreshed naturally and gently without chemicals. However, it is better to avoid well-intentioned home remedies such as cooking oil, Vaseline or milk in your leather care routine, as these can become rancid or, in the worst case, moldy and thus do more harm than good.
For this reason, however, we at Tapir have developed natural care products for leather with many valuable ingredients that care for your pieces gently and naturally. In the other questions you will find more detailed information about the respective products.
At Tapir you will find leather care products for all types of leather – whether suede, smooth leather or artificial leather.
So, before you start caring for your leather, you should determine what type of leather it is. This is because an incorrectly suitable care product can cause damage to the material.
To refresh your smooth leather, you have a wide selection with us.
For cleaning, our leather and saddle soap is the first option. For the subsequent care, you have the option of choosing between leather care cream, leather grease and leather oil.
To provide deep care, it is best to use the leather grease. This should not be used too often, as it always makes the leather softer. Leather oil, on the other hand, is more suitable for maintenance care. The leather care cream is suitable for intensive care, impregnation and the preservation of the natural shine of the smooth leather.
To refresh suede, you need mechanical care utensils, such as our suede eraser or a suede brush. These restore the fibers of the leather so that it regains its characteristic appearance. After the refresh, the impregnation for suede, nubuck and suede helps to protect the leather from moisture and dirt.
To refresh artificial leather, it is best to use our Outdoor-unterwegs! series. This is also suitable for use on leather, blended fabrics or cotton.
Vinegar declares war on mold, simply dilute white vinegar with the same amount of water. Gently wipe the affected area with this mixture using a soft cloth. Please be careful not to soak leather, as excessive moisture can damage it.
After this anti-mold treatment, good care is definitely necessary. Tapirs leather oil is particularly suitable here – at least for smooth leather. Because this also contains a vinegar content. At the same time, it nourishes and nourishes the leather down to the depths.
Simply put a little of the oil on a cotton cloth or the application brush and gently massage the leather oil into the material.
The leather oil should not be used with suede. Here you can use leather impregnation for suede, nubuck and suede. Simply shake well and spray on the leather at the same time from a distance of about 20-30 centimeters. Then spread and massage the impregnation with the Tapir Application Brush or the Tapir Gloss Brush to prevent staining. Finally, brush the suede with a suede brush or the suede eraser to put the fibers back up.
Especially after a long period of wear and incorrect or no care, the colour of the smooth leather may fade. However, you can counteract this with our natural care products from Tapir. After a thorough cleaning of the leather (depending on the degree of soiling, for example, either with the dirt brush or the leather and saddle soap), the leather care cream is a good choice. This is extremely easy to apply to the leather with an application brush or a cotton cloth. We recommend first spreading the leather care cream on the seams, around the edge and on the cap and then carefully massaging the rest into the leather. Then allow the cream a short drying time and finally rub the shoe to a high gloss with a shine brush.
The leather care cream is available in different shades:
colorless, black, brown, reddish-brown and blue. Be sure to use the right shade for the respective leather, as natural colour pigments in the leather care cream refresh the leather colour!

To prevent your leather from becoming brittle, cracked and dry in the first place and not fading, proper storage is crucial.
Be sure to store the leather in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. This is because UV rays can fade and damage the leather.
In addition, regular care with special leather care products counteracts drying out. So before it is stored for a longer period of time, treatment with leather grease, leather oil or leather care cream is crucial.
To protect the leather from dust and light during storage, it can be placed in a breathable bag or an air-permeable fabric cover. Lederhosen or coats should ideally be stored hanging so that there are no wrinkles and color changes in them.
By following these tips, you will enjoy your leather for a long time.
